How promotions work in Lagos Life
Every career has five levels, and each promotion jumps your pay. Getting there needs exactly two things — here is how to line them both up.
The two things every promotion needs
A promotion is never automatic. To move up a level you need both of these at once:
- The career's skill at the required level. Roughly skill level 1 for your 2nd rank, 3 for the 3rd, and up from there — the higher the rank, the more skill it takes.
- Work performance at 100%. Turn up on time and finish the full shift. Being late or leaving early drops your performance and stalls your promotion.
Which skill matters?
It is the skill tied to your career. Coding pushes Tech and Product Management; Charisma drives Banking, Real Estate and Law; Fitness carries Medicine and Nursing; Music powers the Shrine careers. Check your job's skill on the jobs table.
How to train the skill (between shifts)
Shifts are only one hour. The real progress happens between them. Tap your character to open the “What should they do?” menu — a list of quick 6–11 second actions. The Practise… actions raise a skill (Practise Stand-up → comedy, Practise Dance Moves → dance, and so on), and skill furniture at hometrains the rest (a laptop desk for coding, a dumbbell rack for fitness).
What changes when you get promoted
- Your pay per shift jumps at every level.
- Your job title changes (Intern → … → CTO).
- Fan guides note that performance resets partway after a promotion, so keep showing up clean to climb to the next rank. (We're still verifying the exact reset.)
Level 2–5 salaries aren't shown in the game until you reach them, so the exact jumps are still on our in-game to-do list. The mechanic above, though, is confirmed.
